359th FS (L to R) Lts. Edward Malo, Rolfe Chickering and Airus Bergstrom. these three guys come over on the Queen Elizabeth together in April 1944

Eddie Malo Photo

This photo is of Kesgrave Hall where the officers in the 359th FS lived.  It was located about 1 mile from our airfield, Martlesham Heath. The 360th FS officers lived in a British Castle with a moat around it called Playford Hall.  The third squadron officers, 361st FS, lived on the airfield.

This is a photo of the four roomates who lived in the same room at Kesgrave Hall.  (L to R) Lts.  Percy O'Quinn, Russell Scharnberg, Airus Bergstrom and Edward Malo. O'Quinn, Berstrom and Malo survived WW-II.  Unfortunately however, Lt Russell Scharnberg was killed on December 5, 1944 in a P-51.  The last other pilots saw of Russ was his P-51 was going straight down from about 20,000 feet.  I'm not sure his body was ever recovered.  There is a memorial for him in an American cemetery in Belgium
