"Most of these North American P-51 Mustang pilots have not yet visited London, but they are on their way to take off on the first long range fighter escort mission from England to Russia. They carry with them 16 maps to show the route; chocolate bars for food, and a few other bare necessities. Seated left to right in the truck en route from the briefing room to the planes are: Lt. James Lane, Medford, Massachusetts; Lt. George C. Smith, Los Angeles, California; Lt. Charles Shilke, Somerset, Pennsylvania; Cpl. Anthony D. Fiore, Attleboro, Massachusetts; Lt. J.C. Norris, Amesa, Texas; Lt. Donald Emerson, Pembina, North Dakota; Lt. G.W. Hunt, Hays, Kansas; Lt. George Logan, Montclair, New Jersey; and Lt. Joe Higgins, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania."

"8th Army Air Force Mustang fighter pilots of Col. Don Blakeslee’s Group just returned to England following the first shuttle from Britain-to-Russia while escorting bombers over German targets. Later they escorted the heavies over targets in Rumania and Hungary. On the way back to England from Italy, the bombers attacked targets in Southern France. Left to right, standing: Capt. Neil van Wyk, 349 East 18th St., Patterson, New Jersey; Lt. Harry Dugan, 837 Lowell St., Denver, Colorado; Lt. Farris F. Harris, 4124 Polk Ave., Houston, Texas; Lt. Charles H. Shilke, Somerset, Pennsylvania; Lt. Richard Corbett, 523 West Washington Ave., Madison, Wisconsin; Col. Benjamin S. Kelsey, Waterbury, Connecticut. Sitting: Lt. G. Wayne Hunt, 501 Ash St., Hays, Kansas; Lt. Joseph Patteeuw, 4185 Newport Ave., Detroit; Lt. George H. Logan, Montclair, New Jersey; Lt. George C. Smith, 2603 Sischel St., Los Angeles."

Lt. Thomas K. McDill - flew as a member of the 336FS in April and May of 1944.   He is credited officially as scoring a total of 3 victories, all Me 109s in the air.   Two of these victories came on the day he was shot down and became a POW at Stalag III, May 25, 1944.  taken at Debden, England in May of 44
